The Texas Master Naturalist Heartwood Chapter, based in Montgomery County, is a nonprofit environmental organization dedicated to training and organizing volunteers inspired by nature. We use lectures, printed materials, field observations, and community volunteer projects to pursue our mission
In 2008, our 63 Master Naturalist members donated 3,781 hours to nature projects and the natural areas in Montgomery County and the neighboring areas on our borders with Walker County and Harris County.
- Direct Outreach: educational talks, nature walks, workshops for specialized training
- Indirect Outreach: booths, articles, pamphlets, posters, signs, web site, Chapter newsletter
- Scientific data collection: birds, bats, butterflies, native plants, trees, turtles, frogs
- Habitat maintenance: trails, prairies, wildscape demonstration gardens, wildflower meadows, carnivorous plant bog, ponds, water ways trash bash, recycled fishing line
- Operational tasks: activity planning, preparations, and clean up; organizing the office and educational materials
- Administrative tasks: Officer's duties, membership records, ordering materials and awards
