During our 2009 New Volunteers Training sessions, we were challenged to create a volunteer activity or educational outreach materials. This is a record of how myself -Ray Lewis-, Nita Schiro, and Les Rosenblatt met the challenge.
the Stonebridge Trail Project
During a casual conversation on April 2, 2009, with Larry Cotton, Asst Pastor, Stonebridge Church, The Woodlands, Ray Lewis was asked to submit ideas for a "master plan" to develop the natural areas of the church property. An online review of satellite photos of the property as well as walkarounds showed there to be two main natural features, a pond near the north end of the property and a wooded area to the east and north of the church. The plan has evolved into a recommendation to install a nature trail in the woods, a walking/jogging trail around the natural area, and development of the pond into a bass fishing pond and a wildlife viewing area.
Nita Schiro and Les Rosenblatt, 2009 TMN interns were recruited to assist in this project. The project to present a plan is well underway with a target submission date of June 30 or sooner.
