A social web site where the community of users add the pages requires...
A web host
A commercial web host has a computer where they allow you to upload and store your files and small operational programs. Grassroots.org provides a suite of free user-friendly tools designed to help nonprofits achieve, sustain, and expand a strong web presence.
A CMS program (Community Management System)
Drupal is a free program that we chose to create and maintain our web site. It allows us to control what you see and what the web site members can do.
The program is created and updated by the people, like us, who use it. Some of the biggest sites on the Web, like The Economist, Examiner.com and The White House, are Drupal users. It does take time to learn; however, the Drupal users create tutorials and videos to help each other. Read more and get the download at Drupal.org.
How To Articles for the web site users
We will continue to write and post our tutorials on how to to use our web site in the Help and Support section.
Volunteers
Our Web Team is made up of volunteers who have donated time to learn about how to create a web site.
All of our members volunteer to create and add all the text, links, images, and videos you enjoy and rely on for information.
Customizing for the Texas Master Naturalist Program
We use Drupal components and a little bit of custom code to record our Texas Master Naturalist membership data and generate reports for the members, the Chapter Operational Staff, and the State Program Coordinator. As it gets completed and thoroughly tested, we will write a tutorial for the other Drupal.org users who may need to track volunteer hours.
